This landmark cohort study tracked 1,247 community-dwelling adults across 36 months, identifying the most robust predictors of sustained psychological resilience. Using validated measures of stress reactivity, social support, and adaptive coping, we found that social connectedness, regular mindfulness practice, and purpose-in-life scores collectively explained 68% of variance in long-term resilience outcomes β significantly outperforming individual-level clinical interventions alone.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Its Effects on Anxiety, Depression, and Resilience: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of 42 RCTs π Open
Mathur P., Singh A., Osei J.
Psychological Medicine Β· Vol. 56, Issue 2, 2026
We synthesised 42 randomised controlled trials (n = 8,906) evaluating MBSR programmes across clinical and non-clinical populations. Random-effects meta-analysis revealed significant reductions in anxiety (Hedges' g = 0.71) and depression (g = 0.64), with resilience scores improving by a standardised mean difference of 0.58 across populations aged 18β74.

The Lancet Psychiatry Β· Vol. 12, Issue 8, 2025
A 16-week RCT (n = 384) compared a structured peer-support programme with standard care for generalised anxiety disorder in primary care settings. Participants demonstrated significantly greater reductions in GAD-7 scores (mean difference β3.4, 95% CI β4.1 to β2.7) and higher rates of sustained remission at 6-month follow-up.
Social Connectedness as a Buffer Against Loneliness-Related Mental Health Deterioration: Evidence from the StandStrong Cohort π Open

Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology Β· Vol. 60, 2025
Drawing on two years of StandStrong cohort data (n = 1,102), this study examined how quality of social connection moderates the relationship between loneliness and psychological distress. High-quality social ties attenuated the impact of loneliness on depression and anxiety by up to 54%, with effect sizes persisting across demographic subgroups.

Neurobiological Markers of Psychological Resilience: HPA Axis Reactivity, Cortisol Awakening Response, and Long-Term Adaptation π Open
Singh A., Williams T., Mathur P.
Psychoneuroendocrinology Β· Vol. 168, 2025
We investigated whether HPA axis reactivity and morning cortisol profiles predict psychological resilience trajectories over 18 months. Among 412 participants, blunted cortisol awakening response was associated with faster recovery from acute stressors, while diurnal cortisol slope moderated the relationship between perceived stress and depressive symptoms.
Workplace Mental Health Interventions and Employee Resilience: A Mixed-Methods Study across Five Industry Sectors π Open

Occupational and Environmental Medicine Β· Vol. 81, Issue 4, 2024
This mixed-methods study assessed four workplace mental health programmes across 5 industry sectors (n = 2,310 employees). Structured resilience training combined with flexible work policies produced the greatest improvements in employee wellbeing scores, with effects sustained at 12-month follow-up.

Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry Β· Vol. 65, Issue 9, 2024
A cluster-randomised trial evaluated the StandStrong school resilience programme in 28 secondary schools (n = 3,840 students aged 12β17). Intervention schools showed significantly greater improvements in the Child and Youth Resilience Measure, with largest effect sizes among students from lower-income households.
